Mr. Popular

Last night we had a very nice visit from Andrew, Ashley, and Peyton. This was the first time they had seen Brady since the hospital. We had a nice supper and were also happy to have Mama B and Paw Paw here as well. Peyton has learned a lot of new tricks. She is rolling around the room and trying to crawl. Brady and Peyton did not have much interest in each other last night as Peyton could not be still and Brady slept most of the time. Peyton is all smiles and I can't wait until Brady is able to interact like that. It was good to see my baby brother and his family.

My BFF, Erin, came to visit for my birthday this past weekend. Actually I think she was just using my birthday as an excuse to come and meet Brady. Of course, I was just happy to have her. Her visit was short but I loved seeing her. I am hoping her visit with the little guy will push her into joining the motherhood club sooner than expected. Brady needs a girlfriend!!

Speaking of girlfriends, Brady did meet his first friend close to his age. I got a visit from Kelly and Sophia this week. Kelly is a friend of mine from work. We were due around the same time. However she came early and I came late. I could not believe the difference in sizes of these two. Sophia is about 1 month older. It's hard to believe Brady will get that big, and of course bigger as time goes by. Like his time with Peyton, he did not want to have much to do with Sophia. We are still at the stage where we just sleep, eat, and ruin diapers. Not much else matters as long as we got all those into our day.

What do they think about the new "pet"?

Jetta: I have mixed feelings about the new pet. I am rather curious. I like to stare at it as it sleeps in a swing. I follow mother everywhere, trying to see what she will do next with the new pet. I am also quite jealous of it. It gets to sit in mother's lap WAY TO MUCH. Apparently no one told the new pet that mother's lap is my favorite spot. I am starting to let my displeasure known. I try to squeeze myself onto mother's lap next to the wiggling pet. Sometimes it works, other times, there is just not enough room. I even don't get to sleep with mother in the bed anymore. That pet sleeps on my side of the bed in a little basket so that mother can easliy get it into her lap during the night. That would for sure ruin my sleep. I have tried sleeping with father, but it is just not the same. I just wish mother and father would have talked to me about this first before they brought home a new pet.

Rusty: To tell the truth, I really don't give two wags about the new pet. However, I beleive I am thankful that I am mostly deaf, as it seems that it sometimes makes a lot of loud noise. I like that mommy is at home with me all day now. I don't mind that the new pet is with us too, because it sleeps as much as I do. The days are nice of course until that guy comes home. He likes the new pet more than he likes me, and I have been here longer. But I don't care for him either so I guess it's fair. I still dream about the old days though, when it was just me and mommy. That guy sure has made things more difficult for it to be just me and mommy. I guess I better get used to it.

Beau: I love the new pet! I love mamma, and diddy, and Rusty, and Jetta, and Oscar, and everyone who has come to visit me and the new pet. I love the noises it makes. I just want to lick all over its face when he makes noises. I want to play with all of its sqirmy legs!!! New pet is kinds boring though, because it just kinda lays there. mamma and diddy have to pick it up for it to move. Maybe one day they will let me carry it around. Maybe one day it will play with me and not get angry with me like Rusty does.

Icy: I guess I'll have to carry it around too. People are so lazy!

Oscar: There's a new pet?

Waterboy....not so much

We finally lost our umbilical cord yesterday, which meant we could finally give the stinky boy a real bath. He fared just as I would have expected...he cried and ranted the entire time. As of now, we are not a fan of bath time. Luckily for us, at this point he only needs about 2 baths a week. We were finally rid of that "spit up" smell that had been driving us crazy for days. Unfortunately we were only rid of it for a few minutes. He upset himself to the point of spitting up all over everything as soon as he was dry and in fresh clothes.

A long day

Brady and I visited the doctor's office again today. He had an excellent check up. He has passed his birth weight as he tipped the scales at 8 pounds, 3 ounces. All other check ups where great as well. Since we are still a little yellow, they did a heel prick to test his bilirubens. Unfortunately this was a long and terrible process. They had to take three different viles of blood. The poor kid screamed his head off the entire time. Mom almost felt like crying too. Needless to say, he came home and totally crashed. All that crying wore the little guy out.

We are taking our first trip to visit mommy's work today. I have to drop off lesson plans and am ready to get out of the house and start showing off my little man. I know he will be a big hit. I am not introducing him to my kids just yet. I'm too early in my maternity leave to want to see my little darlings yet!

Presents!!

Brady received his first wrapped present on our doorstop yesterday. Needless to say he had no idea what was going on as we unwrapped it, however he thought the wrapping paper was pretty cool. Thanks Susan, Sarah, and Jim for the gift!

Favorite sleep postition

Of course we have all heard how babies loved to be swaddled. This is of course because they feel secure as they did in the womb. However, Brady has decided he enjoys his space. He tolerates being swaddled, but would much rather sleep with his arms stretched out or with his fists balled up beside his ears.

Welcome Baby Brady!!!!

Adam and I welcomed Brady William Smith into the world on January 31st 2009. He was born at 10:00am via C-section. He weighed in at 8 pounds 1.4 ounces and measured 21 inches long.

Brady meets some of the LARGE family.

Brady has spent his first two weeks meeting some of the family. He still has many more to meet but so far he has been a huge hit!! He has been good for all of his visitors, usually sleeping soundly in their arms.

At home

Now that the Smith family is home, Brady enjoys time in his swing. It has become one of my favorite items as well since it allows time to get things done around the house and to catch up on some much needed sleep. Brady is a good sleeper and Adam is a great help at night. He has become a professional diaper changer! I have been taking time to heal from surgery and keeping the little guy fed. He has been eating very well and we are almost back up to birth weight. Brady went to Brenners Childrens' Hospital yesterday to get a heart checkup. I am happy to say that the doctors believe that whatever arrhythmias they heard during the labor and during his first days, has healed itself. Brady has a healthy heart!
